Cookie Friday: Cap’n Crunch Chocolate Chip

Cereal in cookies just seems like a really good idea!!!!

I got the idea from this post on the Oh Joy! blog. I’m a fan of Oh Joy, but I just had a bad feeling about the recipe. For starters, I didn’t have any glucose on hand, and it just didn’t seem like a good idea to buy any. So I tried substituting honey. That’s a big nope!!!!! Maybe for that reason, my first try (only 6 cookies) ended up being giant puddles of half-baked dough. So delicious, but so not presentable!

On my second try, I started with a simple recipe and just added 1/4 cup choc chips, 1/4 cup pb chips, and 1/4 cup semi-crushed Cap’n Crunch cereal. These turned out beautifully. I will say that they are not my personal favorite texture (super chewy) so I don’t think they’re perfect yet. I’ll go for a 2.0 version someday. But I don’t think the cookie eaters in my life will object to them, and I have no temptation to eat them myself. Perfect.

Wrapped up prettily to share with a friend who had a super busy first week at her internship. And did double unders for the first time in a workout last night. I was so proud. :)

THE COOKIE GRAVEYARD. Haha. Could not be uglier. But the big smooshed spread-out ones taste basically like cookie dough so yeah, I ate some.

And now for a rowing update!!

I love my new rower!! Should I be calling it an erg?? I’ve heard people say that. I’m guessing they’re interchangeable, but I’m new. Either way, that thing is so quiet! I was so shocked. I could actually listen to a podcast with only my laptop speakers while rowing (lightly). Yes!

ROWING

I haven’t done anything too crazy yet, but I’ve been doing the short Concept 2 wod each day. Ugh 20 minutes does NOT feel short to me on a rower. But I suppose that’s how I used to feel about running back in the day. Sort of. Running came a lot more naturally to me. Here’s what I did today:

Yeah, there ended up not being a huge difference between my 3 min on and my 2 min off. I don’t really know how to pace myself since in CrossFit we’re typically doing something between 500-2000m (so basically a sprint).  I think doing a whole bunch of their structured workouts will help me figure it out.

Also, of interest, I got the book Becoming A Supple Leopard from the library yesterday!! It’s like a college textbook (about CrossFit), but with a LOT of pictures!! There’s a section on rowing in there, but I really need to study the HSPU and well, all of the lifting. I should go to a coffee shop and pretend to be a college student.  :)

Okay, while we’re here, we might as well talk about my last 2 wods!

Today:

For time:

  • 20 back squats @ 95lbs
  • Run 200m
  • 15 back squats
  • Run 200m
  • 10 back squats
  • Run 200m

My time – 5:31. That felt like cake to me, probably because I’m a lousy sprinter and wasn’t going fast enough. The hardest part was that we did the back squats from the ground, so picking it up, pressing it overhead, and gently setting it down on back…. still freaks me out a little bit. I like to see bars that have 95lbs on them at all times. But I did it.

Yesterday:

7 minutes AMRAP

  • 5 hspus
  • 25 double unders

My score: 4+2  (with 2 abmats). I was in a GREAT mood yesterday. Even hspus couldn’t put a damper on it. And it was perfect because I was there with my CF BFF. So I basically dared her that if I’m going to do hspus, you’re going to do dubs. And she did it!! (that deserves cookies!!) She ended up beating me because I fatigue really quickly on hspus even with 2 mats. Boo!! I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to be kipping them or not so I was trying to keep it strict. It’s an excuse, but I swear I’d have hspus by now if they were easier to practice at home. I just don’t have a safe space, plus I would have to lock up the dogs each time. Practicing pull-ups/double unders was a lot easier. The dogs definitely learned to stay out of the way when that rope was out.

What cereal would you put in cookies? Or what cookies would you put into cereal? Haha. They have chocolate chip cookie cereal!! Oh and Oreo cereal! If they still have that. I’m not super current on all of my sugar cereals. Maybe I should try cookies with Lucky Charms since they are my fave.

What was the most fun workout you did this week? I’m having fun on my new rower, but I loved doing Nancy on Monday.
