Nothing like a little procrastinating to turn things into a real challenge. I had all week to row 14,000 meters for the Concept 2 Valentine challenge, but I didn’t get around to hitting up the rec center until Friday.
I decided to go row instead of go to CrossFit on Friday (I was disappointed no special Valentine’s wod was planned – haha) and decided I could finish this off. I know I’ve done 10k in one sitting before, but I don’t think I did it for time. I have a goal to row a half marathon in the near future so I figured this would be a good start. My goal was to keep my rate under 2:30 (500 m pace), and I finished with a 2:26 overall pace. Yay!!!! I know that I can definitely do a half marathon now (21,097 meters).
Pay no attention to the super long split… I was having major issues with my foot strap!! :)
All the stats for my mom to analyze. I feel like I’m going to hear it for my spms being all over the place!!!
Went home and did some prep with my sister for my students’ Valentine’s piano group class.
And then it was off to the ballet!
But first a romantic dinner at Panda Express with my little sister in tow!!
We actually stopped at the mall to see if we could solve my outfit problems. The rotten weather elsewhere delayed my J.Crew Factory order. Unbelievable! That left me with some stunning shoes but nothing to wear with them. Such a dilemma. I remained remarkably calm – even ask Kevin!! I could’ve worn a plain black dress, but for a fun occasion like the ballet I want to take advantage of the chance to actually dress up! I had great success with a clearance Kensie dress from Macy’s. All of the Kensie dresses were amazing (this one was the runner-up).
I actually changed in the Panda bathroom, and we headed right over!
I’m happy to report that I don’t think I saw a single person attending the ballet in North Face. Although there were definitely a couple of people in prom dresses (and prom hair) as well as a lot of questionable boot/skirt pairings. Love seeing all the little girls attending in their tulle and frills!
The ballet was amazing. It was beautiful and hilarious and very accessible. The music was great! The stepsisters (danced by men) were hilarious! Cinderella was stunning. The athleticism was amazing. If you live in the area, you should go. It’s honestly not that bad even for guys or people who not normally enjoy the ballet since it’s very easy to follow. The lack of live animals is a little disappointing, but the horse-drawn carriage was pretty cool!
The only bad part was they let people in who were insanely late (forcing entire rows of people to stand up and let them in). They warned everywhere that they wouldn’t let people in after the doors closed, but they did. Not to be stuffy, but it was totally irritating. A cellphone definitely rang in our section too.
Found a romantic spot to take pics on the top floor of the parking garage. Ugh. We always end up taking the stairs in heels (although last year’s were a little higher), but it was worth it not to wait for the elevators and to get some cute pics.
My little tourist.
Some Sweet Cow to end the night. Love that it stays open until 11PM! Also love that the ice cream guy made Hannah speak up and try a ton of flavors (she’s a little shy). Hbear had Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and I had Cocoa Puff & Mocha! Delicious ending to our evening.
Best Valentine’s Ever. Hannah agreed. I told her she better not ever take that back!!! :) :)
Have you been to the ballet? What’s your favorite? I love all the fairy tale ballets. I like The Nutcracker, but I’m a little burnt out on it.
Where’s your favorite place to shop for dresses? J.Crew Factory, Ruche, Modcloth, and Zappos! I like places with free returns especially with my recent muscle issues. <— Just about the most popular post ever on corrieanne.com. Thanks for the shares!
Next Concept 2 Rowing Challenge is Mud Season Madness. Rowing 5k or 10k at least 25 times in March!!! I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make that one since it’s based on number of days which is a little more difficult to pull off without a rower at home!
